Assignment 2: My Advertisement
Since I don't have a specific service to advertise, I made up a business. I'm not sure who the target audience would be--bar trivia players, parents who feel out of touch with their kids, people who want to understand the hot topics around the water cooler?--but if I were to start a business, maybe it would be something like this.
I decided to go with a design along the lines of the ones that I found intriguing last week, so I used a lot of white space and a one bold color for visual appeal. I found this picture of a vintage television set during a Google image search and it really appealed to my sense of color. Though I wish the resolution was better, I decided to use it anyway and attempt to smooth it out a little in Photoshop. I kind of like how it turned out to look a little like an oil painting. I like how its a little surreal, which I think keeps it in line with thinking about something that you just don't quite understand. To contrast the image, I decided to go with a very crisp text. I chose a text called Orator Standard that has a lot of space between letters and is in all caps. I think this gives it a little bit of a utilitarian feeling, lending the ad the feel of a public service announcement. I chose a different text for the company name and information so that part of the ad would feel more personal. This text is called Sathu and I like how the capital letters are somewhat similar to the style of the other text but are a little more rounded and sit closer together, while the lowercase letters are curvier and feel more personal. I also added a pop of color in the logo by using a shade of teal that corresponds to the television to draw your eye to the logo. I staggered the text a little to add some interest and draw your eye along the edge of the frame down to the logo.
